DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY

OVERVIEW

The Department of Periodontics provides didactic and clinic instruction in Periodontology at the pre doctoral levels since 2008 and the postdoctoral levels since 2018. The department has staff strength for 06 Post graduate students . The clinical areas of instruction include periodontal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, case presentation, seminars, journal club presentations, therapies and outcome assessments of periodontally compromised patients.

The didactic areas of instruction include the normal periodontium at the macro and microscopic level, periodontal pathology including intra-oral lesions associated with periodontal conditions, periodontal microbiology and immunology, pain control and pharmacology applicable to periodontal treatments, cell biology, wound healing including periodontal regeneration, dental implantology, case management, epidemiology and statistics in Periodontology. The facilities added in last 5 years are implant clinics, laser clinic, microsurgical armamentarium.

There are several ongoing and completed research projects in collaboration with various organisations like cancer hospital, research lab, ministry of coal mines and ICMR by PG students. We are also enriching students with intellectual properties & research methodology. The first batch of MDS students passed out in august 2021. The department conducts webinars, CDE, different programmes and workshops where topics of academic interests are discussed.
